Award-Winning Care for Pediatric Fractures

With pediatric fractures, it’s important that children see the right specialist, right from the start. When parents take kids to emergency rooms designed for adults, there’s always the risk of incorrect diagnosis and treatment. One study of children treated for fractures at emergency rooms or non-specialty urgent care centers found that 93% of splints were placed improperly.1

Treatment delivered by a physician who is not an orthopedic specialist could result in problems for your patient, now and in the future, such as:

  • A slower recovery
  • Bones that don’t heal correctly
  • Damaged growth plates
  • Chronic pain
  • A failure to regain full range of motion

The staff at Ahmanson Foundation Fracture Center at LuskinOIC are specialists in pediatric orthopedic fractures, and have diagnosed and treated thousands of kids to prevent further issues as children grow. At LuskinOIC, we treat all types of pediatric fractures.

Comprehensive Onsite Fracture Care Treatment

Our care begins with precise diagnoses and spans the entire patient journey through recovery, including:

  • Initial treatment and evaluation at LuskinOIC’s Pediatric Orthopedic Urgent Care Center
  • Once a fracture is suspected, specialized care at the Fracture Center
  • Onsite diagnostic tests and imaging, including X-rays
  • Surgical or non-surgical treatment
  • Casting and cast care, if needed
  • Physical rehabilitation, if needed
  • Follow-up care throughout recovery

The care children receive at Ahmanson Foundation Fracture Center at LuskinOIC is second to none. Our specialists access the best in medical technology with the new Harbison Radiology department which features 3 state-of-the-art diagnostic X-ray machines and a portable X-ray machine.

Additionally, the new pediatric orthopaedic rehabilitation center at LuskinOIC includes a kids corner, creating an environment that motivates the youngest patients (ages 0-4) to move, develop coordination and grow. The center includes new equipment that strengthen a child’s extremities using eccentrically controlled movement, and a new Alter G machine first designed for NASA that enables gravity-eliminated walking and running activities to return patients to these activities earlier in their rehabilitation.

Our Researchers Are Studying Ways to Improve Fracture Healing

LuskinOIC researchers have investigated the effects of several variables on fracture healing under controlled laboratory conditions. We’ve conducted important studies on the difference between allowing axial interfragmentary motion alone or shear (sliding) motion on fracture healing. We’ve also studied the effects of a step-off in the knee on cartilage pressures and healing.
